Post Sixteen We offer a wide range of courses with 25 Y12 classes running in 2015/16, covering 22 different subjects. In addition to this there is an opportunity to resit GCSE’s in English and Maths where appropriate, and to complete a Higher Project (an independent investigation equivalent to another GCSE). The size of our Post-16 allows for a real sense of community where students and staff know each other well, without doubt contributing to their academic progress as well as their social and emotional development. Recruitment into Post-16 starts early in Y11 and is open to students already at Hind Leys as well as young people from other schools. The process begins with subject information events followed by a meeting with a member of our senior leadership team. In this meeting (to which parents/carers are invited) the discussion is focused on individual’s achievements and aspirations in an effort to help each student make the right choice of subject for the university courses and/or careers they wish to pursue. The Post-16 curriculum is not pre-blocked and each year changes based on student demand. This means we are able to offer most students their preferred combination of subjects. In recent years, GCSE results have been so good that there has only been a demand for A-Level and equivalent Level 3 courses (e.g. Applied Science, Sport, ICT). The facilitating subjects valued by many top universities are popular but our strengths also lie in the Arts in the broadest sense of the word, and we continue to offer many contemporary subjects with very good outcomes.
